Belmont Stakes, a por un tercer ganador clásico

Sin la presencia de los ganadores del Derby y del Preakness, el Belmont Stakes G.I se presenta como una gran oportunidad de anotarse una victoria clásica para los potros inscritos. Disputada sobre milla y media, esta carrera se le ha llamado "el azote de los campeones", ya que a muchos ganadores de las otras "patas" de la Triple Corona americana se les ha atragantado la distancia, caso reciente de Smarty Jones en el 2004.
Este año se da la circunstancia de que ningún potro será de la partida en las tres pruebas clásicas. Se presentan 5 potros desde el Derby, Bluegrass Cat 2º, Steppenwolfer 3º, Jazil 4º, Deputy Glitters 8º y Bob and John 17º; 2 desde el Preakness, Hemingway's Key 3º y Platinum Couple 6º, y el ganador del Peter Pan Stakes G.II Sunriver hasta un total de 12 potros.
Los favoritos son los dos pupilos de Todd Pletcher Bluegrass Cat y Sunriver, propio hermano de la dos veces "yegua del año" Ashado. También están bien situados en las apuestas Steppenwolfer, el ganador del Wood Memorial G.I Bob and John y Jazil. Las sorpresas podrían venir de Deputy Glitters y de High Finance.

En la misma reunión se disputan otros dos Grupos I muy interesantes, en uno de ellos, el Manhattan Handicap sobre 1 milla y 1/4 en la pista de hierba se darán cita los ganadores de Grupo I Grey Swallow, English Channel, Good Reward y Relaxed Gesture entre otros ganadores de Grupo.

La pista estará pesada ya que en estos momentos llueve en Belmont Park.
